Iron and cobalt containing electrospun carbon nanofibre-based cathode catalysts for anion exchange membrane fuel cell

The use of Pt-based cathode catalyst materials hinders the widespread application anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Herein, we present a non-precious metal (NPMC) material based on pyrolysed Fe and Co co-doped electrospun carbon nanofibres (CNFs). prepared are studied as oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) evolution (OER) catalysts in alkaline acidic environments. High activity towards ORR solution indicated suitability NPMCs for at AEMFC cathode. In test, membrane-electrode assembly bearing with nanofibre-based ionic liquid (IL) (Fe/Co/IL–CNF–800b) showed maximum power density (Pmax) 195 mW cm?2, which is 78% Pmax obtained commercial Pt/C catalyst. Such high electrocatalytic was attributed to unique CNF structure, micro-mesoporosity, different nature nitrogen species metal-Nx active centres.
